Netoboard Project

Project overview
Project overview
This project was a solo project created in the time span of a semester. The criteria were to create a project that relates to current social issues. I create a communicative physical board that connects and controls through a phone app.
Objectives
To connect and better communicate during the Covid times with families, coworkers or roommates through remote phones.

Wireframe & User Flow

QA
User Testing : Scenario
01
You have successfully downloaded the app, now you would want to first connect your app with your door hanger, a tangible device that works with this phone app.
03
After testing out blocking and unblocking notifications, you want to explore and find a screen that can manage multiple apps at once. Now, try to edit the app groups, which icon should you click?
02
It’s your first time using the app, therefore, you want to test it out. After connecting to the app, you want to try blocking iMessage's notification, then, turn it off/ unblocking it again.
04
After some small exploration with the app, you want to see how much battery the doorhanger has and then you want to write or draw down something on the door hanger’s screen.
User Testing : Paper Prototype

Testing and Feedback summary
The lock-like hanger was at an awkward placement on the door. Visually it was hard to see, and it also did not serve too much of the expectation of the ideas in delivering messages while it was limiting screen sizes. More, the hanger seems like a room card that is used at the hotel.

App features

Customizable art board that is shared with others in the group.
Simpler color picker
gives an easier navigation
Inclusion of a feature
of a timer to set up
when the device is on or off
Other than user’s own profile, include other members to app to indicate the connection.

Netoboard Testing: Placement

From the test users seems like to have the board place on the fridge or the walls rather than on the room doors, therefore I added magnets to the netoboard.

Netoboard Testing: Functions

Users reflect that the board would waste a lot of energy lighting all day long , while the Ipad died after 5 hours, if the actual board light up the whole day.
The idea with the Arduino distance sensor was to have the Netoboard lighting up when someone walks by.

Summary
Reflection
Overall, the process was very iterative, with back and forward tests and prototyping. My learning outcome from this project was to prepare user testing based on needed feedback.
